Sometimes the most obvious things pass us by. Sometimes we need someone else to say it for it to sink in. This is my definition of being a good person. This is how you can be better. I’m not finished, I believe we should learn and grow every day. This isn’t meant to be a definitive list and it certainly isn’t me preaching about how wonderful I am. I hope you take something from this list, we can all do better.

  • Care – show care, give care, approach everything you do with care.
  • Kindness – ditto from above. Being kind should be at the top of your list
  • Respect – double ditto. Everyone lives their lives in their own way. Our world is full of diversity. Be respectful of other ways of thinking, of other cultures, of the jobs people do and the way that they look. Give respect.
  • Honesty – be honest with others and yourself.
  • Morals – build your own set of morals and live by them.
  • Family – relatives and your extended family. Forgive and forget. These people can’t be replaced.
  • Work hard – put as much effort as you can into everything that you do. Being lazy is a crappy way to live your life.
  • Educate yourself – read books, listen to podcasts, watch videos. Learn about the world and the people in it.
  • Have positive role models – if someone inspires you to be better immerse yourself in their way of doing things. Limit celebrity culture. Limit trashy media sources.
  • Have good manners – always say please and thank you. Manners are incredibly important.
  • Give a shit – about people around you, about the environment, about your impact on the world. Get your head out of the sand and hold yourself accountable for your actions.
  • Be healthier – look after yourself. Eat healthy food. Do exercise. Look after your body. Be a good role model for those who look up to you.
  • Do more charity work – do as much as you can. I know money is tight for a lot of people. You can give your time to help those in need. If you currently do none, start small volunteer locally. Build it up.
  • Be ethical – buy eco products. Buy quality, not mass-produced. Buy local. Buy organic. Know where your stuff is coming from.
  • Be better – stop gossiping, ignoring people in need, being selfish, being unkind, being self-absorbed, being narcissistic, being materialistic.
  • Get rid of the ego – be more open, learn, understand, be more empathetic.
  • Stand up – for what is right, stand up to bad people, stand up for things you believe in.
  • Let it go – don’t dwell on other peoples negativity, let arguments go, know that everyone makes mistakes… including you
  • Learn – from your mistakes, from other peoples mistakes, when someone asks you to learn something try to.
  • Celebrate the small things – life is about small beautiful moments, enjoy a cuddle, a child’s laugh, a sunny day, time with the ones we love.
  • Be grateful – there is always someone worse off than you. Be grateful for what you have.
  • Stop wanting more – be happy with what you have right now. Dreams and aspirations are good as long as their not taking your focus or enjoyment away from what’s happening today.
  • Listen – to what people are saying, what they are telling you, give them your time and your attention.
  • Hold back – never ever point out peoples flaws or anything about their looks that you don’t like… it’s not kind.
  • Never judge – get to know people on the inside before you make your opinion. Don’t judge people, everyone has their own shit going on and maybe they’re not on their journey to be a better person yet!
  • Be real – be true to who you are. Don’t be fake. Being happy in your own skin is an amazing feeling, strive for it.
  • Be patient and tolerant – not everyone does things the same way as you or at the same speed.
  • Put effort in – make people feel happy and special by the effort you’ve put in.

Try to do more of these things. Not only will people notice and spread your love, but you’ll feel amazing too!
