I don’t get football. I don’t get why the players get paid so much more than other sportspeople. I don’t get why they roll around on the floor with a fake injury. I don’t get why people feel so passionately about it that they need to physically fight each other. I actually feel a bit angry and a bit sad about the whole thing.
I love rugby. I love that the men are different shapes and sizes. I love the respect that they have for the other teams and the referee. I love watching the game. I love the whole thing.
But I’m not going to sit here and slag football off. Fair enough. If you like it good for you. If you’re currently sat in three-day-old pants that are on backwards and you’re only drinking alcohol that starts with the letter p and you’re going to cry if we lose, good for you.
Let’s all just be a little bit more tolerant of each other. Let’s embrace diversity and alternative culture and respect religion and hair colour and the way we all speak a little differently. Let’s respect that as a human race we’re all very different and very cool.
Let’s not troll people because you fancy their boyfriends or because you don’t agree with their government. Let’s be kind and nice even when we don’t understand other peoples quirks or opinions.
Let’s not let a game, yes it is just a game, ruin a lovely summers evening. Be kind. Be tolerant. Enjoy yourselves, but not at the expense of others.
